The 5th (BC) Field Regiment,
Royal Canadian Artillery Band

Victoria's own 5th (BC) Field Regiment, RCA Band is the only Canadian Forces Primary Reserve brass-and-reed military band on Vancouver Island. It provides students and professionals, from as far away as Port Alberni and Courtenay, with a great part-time job, while fostering an esprit de corps not found in the civilian world. The Band rehearses one night a week and provides musical support for Victoria's large military community by performing at formal dinners, dances, parades, military ceremonies and public concerts. There are Reserve bands all over Canada if you move away from Victoria. Make a career of it!

The Canadian Forces Primary Reserve:

  • offers you up to $2,000 per school year towards the tuition of your initial four-year undergraduate degree while you're in the Reserves.
  • provides an opportunity for musical training, personal growth and advancement, travel, and team experience - all while being paid!
  • guarantees part-time employment during the school year, and offers options for full-time employment in the summer.
  • allows you the flexibility to schedule your work around school requirements, other jobs and family commitments.
  • provides a dental plan, vacation pay, BC Medical premium assistance, commuting assistance, travel, accommodation and meal allowances, per diems, clothing allowances and the eligibility for a generous retirement gratuity after ten years of service.

The Band rehearses Tuesdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Bay Street Armoury, 715 Bay St. (between Douglas and Blanshard)

We welcome all interested musicians, but currently we are particularly interested in: Flute, Trumpet, and Percussion.
